Mars
Dust Cycle Workshop
September
15-17, 2009
NASA Ames Research Center
Moffett Field, California
Final
Announcement
This is the final announcement for
the Mars Dust Cycle Workshop to held at NASA's Ames Research Center
September 15-17, 2009. The program is now complete and can be accessed
at (Click Here). Meeting details
follow below.
Guide
to Speakers
The oral sessions will take
place in the Auditorium of Bldg 245. To stimulate discussion, we have
allocated 30 minutes per talk and ask presenters to prepare for no more
than 15 minutes of actual speaking time. We anticipate that questions
will arise both during and after each talk. Therefore, please limit
your presentation to less than 15 slides or so.
Please bring your presentation
on a USB memory drive. We will have a Mac and a PC both equipped with a
recent version of PowerPoint and a PDF reader.
Guide
to Poster Presenters
Poster sessions will take
place in the foyer of the Bldg 245 Auditorium at the end of the first
two days. Refreshments will be provided. Poster presenters should plan
on a display space of 44" x 44". Posters should be designed to attach
to a supporting panel with workshop-provided pushpins. Posters can be
posted at any time during the day, but should be taken down at the end
of the poster session.
Extended
Abstract Reminder
The due date for extended
abstracts for both oral and poster presentations is Sept. 25, 2009.
These abstracts should include the material actually presented at the
workshop. The extended abstracts can be up to four pages long; can
include figures, tables, and references; and should be formatted
according to the template found here (Click Here). We plan to
publish
the extended abstracts as a NASA Conference Proceedings document and it
is important that each abstract have the same format. Therefore, please
use the template provided above.
Special
Issue
We are considering publishing
longer peer-reviewed workshop and related papers in a special issue of
the Mars Journal (http://marsjournal.org/).
The Mars Journal is an
online open access journal that publishes papers on Mars science,
technology, and policy. The Chief Editor of the journal (David Paige)
is enthusiastic and fully supports the idea of a special issue on the
Mars Dust Cycle. Whether we go forward on this depends on the number of
papers it would contain. Please give some though to publishing your
work in a special issue of the Mars Journal. We will discuss this
further at the workshop.
Registration
Reminder
While there is NO REGISTRATION
FEE for this workshop, it is important that all workshop attendees
register in advance of the meeting. This is necessary for badging
purposes. Ames Research Center is a federally secured facility and
badges are required for entry. Although online registration is formally
closed, you can still register for the workshop via e-mail by
contacting
Sandra Owen at Sandra.Owen-1@nasa.gov.
Checking
In
All workshop participants need
a badge to gain entry to Ames Research Center. Badges will be available
at the Visitor Center beginning Monday, Sept. 14, 2009. They will be
valid through Thursday, Sept. 17, 2009. The Visitor Center is located
adjacent the main gate and is open between 6:00AM and 6:00PM. Be sure
to bring a government issued photo-identification (e.g., drivers
license, passport, etc.).
The workshop begins Tuesday
morning (Sept. 15, 2009) at 8:00AM. Given the large workshop turnout,
plan to arrive at the Visitor Center early (7:00AM wouldn't be too
early). They will issue your badge and provide directions to Building
245. Foreign nationals will need to be escorted on base. Two marked
vans will be waiting in the Visitor Center parking lot and will depart
for Bldg 245 no later than 7:45AM each day. Foreign nationals arriving
later will need to contact someone on the local organizing committee to
arrange for access.
If you fly in early enough
Monday (the day before the workshop), we strongly encourage you to pick
up your badge before the Visitor Center closes (6:00PM) to avoid the
morning crowds. Otherwise, plan on arriving early Tuesday morning.
Checking
Out
Well, ...... "You can check
out anytime, but you can never leave." (Can you name that tune?)
